Stunning day on the Coniston Fells

Let's be honest, late November can occasionally bring less than perfect weather to the Lake District! This day on the Coniston fells though was absolutely beautiful.

By mid-week, the forecast for a planned Saturday hike looked great - high pressure, low winds, and clear skies. Joined by Pete and Alastair we certainly weren't disappointed! With sub-zero temperatures though, the route was carefully chosen to be facing the low November sun as much as possible.

The plan was for a circuit of the Coniston Fells, steering away from the main tourist route as far as possible. So, we took the Walna Scar to Brown Pike, Buck Pike and a scramble on Duck Crag, before joining the crowds enjoying stunning views at the top of Old Man. Fuelled up, we again left the crowds and descended off the beaten track via Brim Fell Rake. The sun was on us most the day and views absolutely breathtaking!

After 5 hours enjoying the fells, with the daylight now fading, we returned to the car, with great memories (and plenty of photos) of a stunning Lakes day.
